First update on From Blood Reborn

This is my first update on From Blood Reborn, the forthcoming third installment of The Oasis of Filth. Since this is only my third foray into the world of writing, I am trying to be a sponge, learning all I can from those who have had success before me and who are willing to talk about how they did it. I read a lot of what Hugh Howey has to say. I have been reading Write. Publish. Repeat. by Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt. Lots of great information.

I have a story I want to tell. (Truthfully, I have several. I hope they don’t stop!) But I don’t necessarily know the best way to accomplish the task, especially quickly. I am very thankful to have people so excited about this series that they are hounding me for volume 3 before volume 2 has even cooled (In particular, Clay, you’ve been heard!).

In addition to a plethora of advice on how to package and market books, I’ve learned about new tools as well. Previously, my books were written exclusively in Google Docs. I truly see how this was a benefit, but it had its drawbacks. So now I am testing Scrivener. I know many authors will say it’s great (though, of course, not all). I am feeling my way, outlining From Blood Reborn and writing it in this new tool. So far, it has been a little slow, but I feel I am making good progress.

It’s strange. Though I know where I want each story to go, I have (so far) written linearly. I still plan to do that for 95% of this book. But just today, I have written the ending. First.

Now, I know I will have to go back and tweak the ending based on all the other chapters I will write before it. But for now, as odd as this is to say, From Blood Reborn has a complete ending. Wow.

Writing is a strange and compelling journey. I am so pleased that so many people have enjoyed the reading part of this journey, too. Now that this ending is on paper (well, virtual paper), I am stoked even more to write a volume worthy of the story and the readers who have come around to support it.

Thank you!
